Worship Report

Corporate worship continues to be a central pillar of the church’s activity and ministry. Our approach is to keep it simple so that the focus is on Jesus and enabling the congregation to encounter Jesus through sung worship.

This involves:

  • Getting the balance right between good quality music without it being a performance

  • Leading worship as a gentle invitation (and sometimes a rousing encouragement) to engage with our Creator and Saviour

  • Getting the mix of songs right so that they reflect the theme of the service & talk, and also include new songs that are in step with current expressions of worship in the wider church, as well as more familiar songs that the majority of the congregation can engage with easily

  • Ensuring that the cultural mix of the church congregation is reflected appropriately - this is particularly evident in the Indian and African takeover services, which have now become a regular ‘fixture’ of the church calendar

  • It’s also been great to see the youth regularly running one of the 5pm services.

Limited resources provide ongoing challenges - it’s a small team and we have to deal with occasional technical malfunctions (especially the projector!), but the team also feels extremely blessed to be able to serve the wider congregation through music, sung worship and technical support. In addition, having Mahima Thombre available to support the worship team as part of her internship has provided valuable extra resource.
